Paint the Silence

If Lonely calls,

let the phone ring until it fades into silence.

If Lonely taps your shoulder,

brush it off.

If Lonely slips you a note,

fold it into an airplane and let the wind decide.

If Lonely intercepts you as you’re walking,

wave toward the horizon. “I’m heading somewhere brighter.”

If Lonely scoffs,

explain, “I’m joining friends. Haven’t met them yet but will soon.”

If Lonely follows you home to slip like a shadow under the door,

tell Lonely, “You have the wrong address.”

If Lonely persists,

peers into your windows late at night,

finds a crack and

razors forward,

carving into your dreams—

wake up and face Lonely.

“Let’s paint the silence,

whisper dreams to the stars,

and dance.’’
